Sustain Tomorrow

Sustain Tomorrow is sustained by innovative design. We believe it is our responsibility- and purpose- to use innovation to fight climate change. We work with businesses, consulting firms, solar and wind developers, universities, and utilities around the world to support sustainability teams achieve GHG reduction goals quickly and creatively.

Collaborative Project

9/2020-Present

  • I conducted research on the environmental market and why certain eco-friendly products are not user-friendly or convenient. I also interviewed several companies designing eco-friendly products to understand more about their design processes.

  • We put together prototype design thinking workshops in order to understand if the workshops would help companies create more user-friendly designs.

  • We gathered feedback from users about our initial workshops and made changes based on user needs.

  • I created a series of videos for Sustain Tomorrow to help users understand more about the workshops.

Problem πŸ€”

  • Rapid climate change threatens our planet-- and it’s a dire reality we are all facing. In response to this challenge, corporations have developed sustainability teams to meet ambitious GHG reduction targets. However, these teams are often extremely small, pressed for time, and spread thin as they address a wide array of sustainability issues ranging from equity to renewable deployment to mitigation to water to transportation. Each of these areas of focus have specific challenges that can be overwhelming for a small team to tackle, which often results in creation of products and services that are not user friendly.

Opportunity πŸ‘

  • How might we help companies design environmentally conscious products and services?

Field Research πŸ”

  • Corporate sustainability teams need actionable solutions to help them meet ambitious GHG reduction targets.

  • Many companies are designing environmentally conscious products that are not user-friendly. This is cost intensive because companies have to go back to the drawing board after products are released.

  • 18 of 25 companies interviewed did not employ design thinking strategies in their product design.

  • Hands-on workshops serve as powerful teaching tools for skills such as design-thinking and add creative capacity to small sustainability teams.

Design IdeaπŸ’‘

  • Immersive design thinking workshops to teach companies to implement design thinking while designing products.

Prototyping πŸ“¦

  • We developed workshops based on key areas corporate sustainability teams work on.

  • We ran 5 design thinking workshops focused on various ESG topics to test, which topic areas resonated with customers.

Testing πŸ§ͺ

  • We tested our workshops with university students and gathered feedback after each class. Then, during our outreach process, we ran immersive activities with companies to gather more feedback.

Iterations πŸ”„

Our design iterations are in progress! We are currently in the process of narrowing down our target audience within the corporate environmental realm. Some of the companies we tested the workshops with requested private design thinking consulting on specific existing prototypes. Therefore, we ran private consultation workshops and continue to iterate on the content through feedback surveys.
